National Population Stabilization Fund, and autonomous body under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, selected Rekha Kalindi, a 13 year old girl student of NCLP Purulia as the role model for the country in the campaign against early marriage.
On World Population Day celebration ceremony of Government of India at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, Rekha was present along with Sri Prosenjit Kundu, ALC, and Project Director, NCLP Purulia. The Union Health Minister, Gulam Nabi Azad said on that occasion that the example of Rekha will change the lifeline of many families of our country. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Tribedi described Rekha as star of the day, and the Brand Ambassador of the cause of Population Control and preventing early marriages. Rekha shared her experience on education and stopping of her own marriage with the audience at Vigyan Bhavan. She also described how as an active participant of Child Activist Initiative of NCLP Purulia she and her classmates are actively opposing early marriages in their locality. The Union Ministers and the audience appreciated her achievements and activities.
